Global Art
couscous, cast and painted bronze
1999
33 x 30 (d) inches / 0,84 x 0,77 (d) meters
Couscous reappears in Global Art a sphere made of that evocative material and topped with three cacti. Again, Gérard plays with the effect of postcolonial migrations (a phenomenon with personal resonance for the artist, as his former wife's family is from Algeria). As a globe, the work asks questions about human survival and identity.
